Why Is Downwash Important?

Downwash reduces the wing's effective angle of attack and as a result reduces lift force and also produces induced drag. Downwash changes the flow field downstream of the main wing and consequently changes the aerodynamic coefficients of the airplane's tail.

Does downwash increase or decrease lift?

Hence, as downwash increases so does lift. Induced drag is due to vortices at the wing tips and they also create downwash.

What is aerodynamics and why is it important?

Aerodynamics is the way objects move through air. The rules of aerodynamics explain how an airplane is able to fly. Anything that moves through air is affected by aerodynamics, from a rocket blasting off, to a kite flying. Since they are surrounded by air, even cars are affected by aerodynamics.
