Why Is My Pee Rainbow?

Colors of the rainbow

Clear pee is a sign of hydration -- too much, in fact. Contrary to popular belief, a normal, healthier shade ranges from a pale yellow to a darker, almost amber hue. Color can fluctuate throughout the day, and any shades within this range shouldn't be cause for alarm.

Why is my pee glowing?

The most common culprit is vitamin B2, also known as riboflavin, which is found in most multivitamins. The neon color in pee is just a harmless sign that you're taking more than your body needs, and the excess is mixing with your pee.

Why is my pee neon purple?

A diet rich in tryptophan (found in foods like turkey, red meat and dairy) can offset a reaction in the gut, where tryptophan interacts with the higher bacteria count in the urine and breaks down to a chemical called indoxyl sulfate, which ultimately turns the pee purple.
