Why Is Vlan Interface up Down?

The VLAN interfaces have to fulfill these general conditions to be up/up: The VLAN exists and is in active status on the switch VLAN database. The VLAN interface exists on the switch and is not administratively down. At least one Layer 2 (L2) (access port or trunk) port exists and has a link up on this VLAN.

Why is VLAN administratively down?

Administratively DOWN—The interface has been shut down by using the shutdown command. DOWN—The interface is administratively up, but its physical state is down. The VLAN of this VLAN interface does not contain any physical ports in up state. The ports might not be connected correctly or the links might have failed.

How do you force a VLAN interface?

To resolve this issue, I could have either connected a PC or a loopback into the router or simply forced the VLAN into an “up/up” state. Issuing the “no autostate” command on the VLAN interface will bring the interface up.
