Why Pavement Is Black?

Since asphalt, the most common material used for pavement, is dark and has a low albedo (a measure of solar reflectance), it's been said to generate more heat in urban areas and raise the temperature in these cities due to the material absorbing and retaining the heat from the sun.

Why the Colour of roads is black?

During the summer and high temperatures, the black color does not reflect the solar waves that will help us to see the roads clearly. Asphalt concrete absorbs heat but that doesn't affect to visibility in extremely hot conditions. In night times bright colors can be easily seen on black roads.

What is black pavement called?

Asphalt, also known as bitumen (UK: /ˈbɪtjʊmɪn/, US: /bɪˈtjuːmən, baɪ-/), is a sticky, black, highly viscous liquid or semi-solid form of petroleum.
