Reindexing tables is an important part of good database housekeeping, because it reorganizes the indexes and restores speedy access. Microsoft's SQL Server has a handy command that rebuilds all indexes in a table. Oracle users typically rebuild each index in a table individually.
Why do we need to reindex database?
REINDEX provides a way to reduce the space consumption of the index by writing a new version of the index without the dead pages. See Section 23.2 for more information. You have altered a storage parameter (such as fillfactor) for an index, and wish to ensure that the change has taken full effect.
Why do we need indexing in SQL?
An index is used to speed up the performance of queries. It does this by reducing the number of database data pages that have to be visited/scanned. In SQL Server, a clustered index determines the physical order of data in a table.
