Why Travel to Trabzon?

Trabzon is not one of my favourite cities in Turkey, yet it serves as a good base for sightseeing in the area. Although few western tourists go in that direction, people from the Middle East are a frequent sight. During the 1990's, it also enjoyed great financial success as a central hub of the suitcase tourism trade.

Is Trabzon worth visiting?

Don't let the graffiti put you off if you plan to visit because there is lots of attractions in Trabzon. ... Most people visit Trabzon especially to see this attraction. You can read more about that here. There is also a Hagia Sophia which is a lot smaller than it's counterpart in Istanbul but it is still worth a visit.

What is Trabzon known for?

Trabzon is famous throughout Turkey for its anchovies called hamsi, which are the main meal in many restaurants in the city. Major exports from Trabzon include hazelnuts and tea.
