Will a Brick Wall Stop Flooding?

A home's interior can still be severely damaged in a flood, even when the floodwaters are less than two feet deep. To safeguard against shallow flooding, implement a waterproof veneer such as a layer of brick with a waterproof backing.

Does flood water go through bricks?

Flood water will tend to find its way and penetrate "weak" points in the building such as areas where there is cracking. Cracks to walls, within the brick, blockwork, mortar joints or render, provide a direct path for floodwater to enter a property.

Can a brick wall hold back water?

While the brick itself is very resistant to water passing through it, and to a degree the mortar between the brick, the interface where the mortar touches up against the brick provides a pathway for water to enter into a brick wall.
