Don't misunderstand – honed marble does not etch less. It etches the same, but it is much less noticeable because the marble is already dull. For reference – honed marble countertops are typically sealed, as well. They just have a matte finish, instead of polished.
How do you remove etch marks from honed marble?
To remove etching from marble follow these steps:
- Apply a spoonful of etch remover over the etch or "water mark".
- Using a rag, rub the etch remover over the blemish by hand.
- Continue rubbing the affected area for approximately 3 minutes.
- If necessary, repeat steps 1-3 until the etch is removed from the marble.
Does honed marble scratch easily?
Since honed marble is a matte finish it is more resistant to scratches. Even if honed marble does get scratched, it is less noticeable because the scratch won't be as easy to see when light reflects off it, like with a polished surface.
