Will My Potentilla Come Back?

If you inherit an unwieldy potentilla shrub that flowers poorly, rejuvenate the plant in the spring by pruning off all the stems. Cut as close to the ground as possible. The shrub will not flower that summer, but should be vigorous and full of blossoms the following year.

How do you revive Potentilla?

Remove approximately one-third of the oldest stems at ground level, and cut the remaining stems back by one half to two thirds to rejuvenate the shrubs. The goal is to encourage new growth from the base of the shrubs. Potentillas flower on new growth so you should get flowers again next summer.

Do Potentilla come back every year?

They are deciduous and begin to loose their leaves in November, regaining them again in April / May time. Potentillas are fully hardy throughout the UK. They prefer full sun for the flowers to develop to their best but will still thrive in part shade.
