Will Not Endure Sound Doctrine?

The term is found only once in the Bible, in 2 Timothy 4. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

What do itchy ears want to hear?

It is found in Paul's second letter to his protege Timothy (or as Trump might call it, Two Timothy): “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.”

Why is sound doctrine important?

Fables are legendary stories of supernatural happenings, often falsehoods. Sound doctrine is an enabler: “Holding fast the faithful word he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers” (Titus 1:9).
