Will Preservation Age Increase?

Increase in preservation age
Attaining preservation age is necessary to satisfy the retirement condition of release, which allows clients to access their super in full as a lump sum or as an account-based pension. Preservation age started rising from age 55 on 1 July 2015 and will reach age 60 from 1 July 2024 onwards.

How much super Can I access at preservation age?

If you're under your preservation age, have been receiving financial support payments from the government for 26 consecutive weeks and can't meet reasonable and immediate family living expenses, you can apply to withdraw between $1,000 and $10,000 from your super. This can only be done once in a 12-month period.

What happens to my super when I reach preservation age?

Once you've reached your preservation age and you retire from the workforce, you can access your super. However, if you access your super prior to turning 60, you may have to pay tax on any payments you receive, regardless of the type of payment you get (i.e. lump sum or pension).
