Willem Dafoe was born in Appleton, Wisconsin, on July 22, 1955. He was born to Muriel Isabel, his mother, and Dr. William Alfred Dafoe, his father. Willem was one of eight brothers and sisters in his family. His parents both worked at the same hospital, where his father was a well-known surgeon and his mother a nurse. Willem was raised with his five sisters in a family where his parents were very dedicated to their profession and constantly busy. His parents were of mixed heritage, with English, German, French, Irish, and Scottish descent being the most common.
