10 Pet Sleeping Positions and What They Mean

Does your dog or cat sleep on your bed with you? If so, what position do they go for?

According to new research, two-thirds of pet owners will share the bed with their furry friend this evening. The study, commissioned by pet wellbeing specialists Itchpet.com, has found that more than a quarter of animal-lovers feel less alone when sleeping with their pet, whilst 37% like their pet's warmth and one in 10 get a feeling of "safety and security" from allowing their cat or dog into their bed.

The study of 2,000 pet owners further reveals the 10 common sleeping positions that are adopted by our pets. Experts claim that we can learn a lot about the bond between us and our four-legged friends by observing the way we share the bed with them.

Here are the 10 pet sleeping positions and what they mean about your bond:

1. The Faithful

What does it look like? Pet lies at the end of the bed by your feet.

Whilst this position is believed to be reflective of the loyal pet, the Faithful actually isn't a sign of endearment. Instead, it is likely that you're a restless sleeper and this is as close as your pet can get whilst maintaining an easy escape route.

2. The Knee Nuzzle

What does it look like? Pet cuddles into the bend of your legs whilst you lie in the foetal position.

Warmth and security attract your pet to this position as you curl up together, almost like big and little spoons. This position suggests that your pet is happy to hand over all responsibility for their wellbeing as if they were a little puppy or kitten once again. Here, your pet feels protected and can literally sleep like a baby.
