Long before Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s love story captured the hearts of Voice fans everywhere, Blake and ex-wife Miranda Lambert had the hottest romance in country music.

For a while it seemed as though country’s “it” couple was unstoppable. Together they experienced highs in both their relationship and careers, often collaborating together on hit songs.

But after six years of dating and four years of married life, the couple ultimately called it quits in July 2015. Now, we're looking back at Blake and Miranda’s relationship timeline—and what led to their divorce.

Blake and Miranda met in 2005.

Blake and Miranda had only met in passing before they were paired up to perform the David Frizzell and Shelly West hit “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma” during the CMT 100 Greatest Duets special in September 2005. Although Rolling Stone reported that their on-stage chemistry was palpable, Blake was married at the time, to first wife Kaynette Williams.

The country star later copped to his instant spark with Miranda on VH1’s Behind the Music. “I’ve never had that kind of experience with anybody,” he said at the time. “I was a married guy, you know? Looking back on that, I was falling in love with her, right there on stage.”

Five months later, Blake filed for divorce from Kaynette, but denied rumors that his blossoming relationship with Miranda was the cause. Blake and Miranda went public with their relationship at the 2007 CMT Music Awards, where they posed together for the first time on a red carpet.

They later married in 2011.

Blake proposed to Miranda in May 2010 during a romantic stroll through the woods near Miranda’s Oklahoma ranch.

“Weddings are great and engagements are great and diamonds are especially great,” Miranda told People magazine at the time. “But I’m just excited to be married because I want to tell Blake I really can love him the rest of my life and be happy and make him happy.”

The pair wed on May 14, 2011 in a rustic ranch ceremony in Boerne, Texas. Some of country music’s biggest stars were in attendance, including Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire, who took the stage to sing at the reception.
