On Wednesday, September 13, a maiden commercial plane touched down at the officially opened Lichota airstrip in Migori county.

This was a historical moment for the locals who are set to witness growth in the tourism sector given the strategic location of the county that borders Tanzania near the Serengeti, known for the wildebeest migration.

On the maiden flight by Skyward Express, an Airline that has been operating in the country for 10 years now, were Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Ida Odinga, the wife of Opposition leader Raila Odinga, Agnes Ochillo, the first lady of Migori county among others.

With this development, Migori residents who have been spending up to seven hours to reach Nairobi by bus for KSh 1,400 will only take less than an hour to access Kenya's capital by air.
