Does Y Level Matter When Linking Portals?

Get the x and z coordinates of your nether portal. Y coordinate does not matter, but positive and negative does. In this example the coordinates are 225, 22. Divide those coordinates each by 8 to determine the coordinates in which to place your new nether portal in the Nether.

Does height matter when linking Nether portals?

Yes, it does matter. Make your portal at about sea level for a near-certain chance of being in the normal nether section.

Are y coordinates the same in the nether?

1 Answer. While converting between Overworld and Nether coordinates, only X and Z are scaled by 8, y remains the same (in your calculation y is also divided by 8).
