How to Use a Spacer?

Put the end of the spacer into your mouth, between your teeth and above your tongue. Close your lips around the spacer. Press down on the inhaler to release the spray, and begin to breathe in through your mouth. Breathe in deeply and slowly (for about 5 seconds) to pull the medicine deep into your lungs.

How do you properly use a spacer?

Breathe in Slowly
  1. Put the spacer between your teeth and close your lips tightly around it.
  2. Keep your chin up.
  3. Start breathing in slowly through your mouth.
  4. Spray one puff into the spacer by pressing down on the inhaler.
  5. Keep breathing in slowly. Breathe as deeply as you can.

What are the advantages of using a spacer with an inhaler?

Spacers help the medication get straight to where it's needed in your lungs, with less medication ending up in your mouth and throat where it can lead to irritation or mild infections. A spacer can also make it easier to coordinate breathing in and pressing your puffer.
