Randi, age 53, was born on 19 November 1967 to parents Gilbert D. Kaye and Joyce Taffer Kaye. She grew up along with sisters Jody and Jeryl, and a brother Evan Kaye in New York City, New York.

Kaye, with a height of ‎5 feet 10 inches (1.78 meters), attended Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. There, she graduated cum laude with a degree in broadcast journalism at the age of 22. While an undergraduated there, Randi joined the sorority Alpha Epsilon Phi.

Randi began her career at ABC, where she worked for Nightline and then Peter Jennings for five years. Later, she worked as an anchor and reporter for ABC-affiliated KATV and WFAA-TV. She also holds the experience of working on KMSP-TV and WWOR-TV for several years.

In 1998, Kaye joined CBS owned-and-operated WCCO-TV as an anchor. There, she anchored the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts and also was part of the investigative team on the network. After working for six years, she joined CNN in 2004.
