When to Cut Back Hellebores?

When to Prune Hellebores
The best time for pruning a hellebore plant is late winter or early spring, just as soon as the new growth begins to appear. This new growth should come straight up out of the ground as little stalks. These stalks should still be surrounded by a ring of last year's big leaves.

Do you cut back hellebores after flowering?

I always cut off all the flower stems before the pods split. Finally, we're often encouraged to divide our hardy perennials every three years and to replant the healthiest pieces in improved soil. However hellebores, like hostas, are best left to mature into large clumps and not split.

Should I cut leaves off hellebores?

Always remove any leaves which are brown or black even if it means the plant is almost denuded, it will survive and as always with infected leaves, do not compost. Cut carefully as by late December/early January, the new buds will be coming through center image, and it is important not to damage these.
